Needle and syringe guide
Gauge, length, volume and connection are important when comparing products. This guide helps you read the specifications but does not replace the product labelling, instructions for use or individual advice from healthcare professionals.
Compare needle lengths
The bars show the lengths proportionally to one another and should not be used as a physical measuring guide on screen. Thickness illustrates gauge and is not shown to scale.
The bar lengths show the relative proportions between the examples. They do not represent actual physical size on screen. Thickness is only an illustration of gauge and is not shown to scale.
Tre saker som avgör att produkten passar
-
Gauge describes thickness
A higher G number normally means a thinner needle within the same standard. Gauge does not indicate how long the needle is or the volume of a syringe.
-
Length is stated in millimetres
The same length does not mean the same product type. Always check the product labelling and intended use.
-
Check connection and compatibility
Pen needles are intended for compatible injection pens. For separate needles and syringes, check the connection and compatibility in the labelling and instructions for use. Luer Lock provides a locking connection when the components are intended to be used together.
-
Gauge does not show the full inner diameter
Two needles with the same gauge can have different inner diameters depending on their design and wall thickness. Check the specific product information when inner diameter or flow is important.

Common questions about dimensions and connections
What does gauge mean?
Gauge describes the needle's outside diameter. Within the same standard, a higher G number normally means a thinner needle. Gauge does not indicate the needle's length.
Does a pen needle fit a standard syringe?
Pen needles are intended for compatible injection pens and use a different connection from separate needles for syringes. For separate needles and syringes, check the connection and compatibility in the product labelling or instructions for use.
What does U-100 mean?
U-100 indicates a concentration of 100 units per millilitre. A U-100 insulin syringe has unit graduations intended for U-100, while the syringe's physical volume is stated separately in ml. Always follow the product and instructions that apply to your treatment.
Which length should I choose?
Refer to the product labelling, the product you already use or instructions from healthcare professionals. Tilden does not provide individual treatment advice.
Does the same gauge always mean the same inner diameter?
Not necessarily. Gauge describes the outside diameter, while the inner diameter is also affected by the needle's design and wall thickness. Check the specific product information if inner diameter or flow is important.
Can I identify a needle by colour alone?
No. Colour can be an aid but should not be used as the sole means of identification. Always check the printed dimensions and labelling on the product and packaging.
What is the difference between Luer Lock and Luer Slip?
Luer Lock has a locking design, while Luer Slip relies on a friction fit. Always check that the syringe and needle you combine are intended to be used together.
Does CE marking mean that the Swedish Medical Products Agency has approved the product?
No. CE marking does not mean that the Swedish Medical Products Agency has individually approved the product. Medical devices are governed by a different regulatory framework from medicines.
